Serenity Now....     5/ 5

This was a great rental experience. The location was just secluded enough, off the beaten path. The views were amazing. I feel in love with this area! The cottage was clean and perfect for the short time we stayed. Had everything we needed.

Well I LOVE it but it IS MINE! by Jan the owner     5/ 5

Well of course I love this home. It is mine and I have done nothing but improve it. But I stay too and VRBO gave me a chance to review it I will take it. This is a chance to say -- I rent my sisters next door too if you need more room. And Hey keep us in mind we are open year round! And winter can be fun sit by the fireplace and watch a movie, play cards/games w/friends. Simply a peaceful getaway! or try ice fishing, snowshoeing, or snow mobiling.....I can set you up with a ice fisherman if interested! Jan

Tranquil Retreat on Lake Ontario     5/ 5

From start to finish we had a wonderful experience. The setting is amazing - secluded, peaceful, & right on the water. We loved kayaking, roasting marshmallows over the campfire, hiking & enjoying the rocky beach. We also visited the lighthouse museum, the sandy beach @ Sodus Point, and the local farm stands. We also rented a pontoon boat one afternoon to see the bay. The trip was wonderful: relaxing, informal, & with time to enjoy one another & reconnect as an extended family. We recommend the cottage highly.

Very comfortable and home like atmosphere. Beautiful view of Lake Ontario     5/ 5

As we entered the cottage it was inviting and comfortable. The view is breath taking As a welcome there was a pumpkin spice loaf in the refrigerator from Burnap’s farm. We had everything we needed, extra blankets, pillows and towels. We just left and on our ride home, we were planning for our next trip back to the Cottage. We didn’t want to leave. It was so peaceful. We had a great time! Thank you Jan!!

The property was beautifully situated, the house and amenities were fantastic. Perfect for us     5/ 5

Everything was convenient and easy to use. Our group was 10 people and we all fit in the house quite comfortably. The location was beautiful and couldn’t have asked for better weather. The kayaks and paddle boat made for good fun. The grill was clean and provided us with the bulk of our meals. Jan is a terrific host and communication was easy and effective. Loved the place, WILL be coming back!

Lovely, from start to finish     5/ 5

Great house, perfect view of the lake, and excellent owner who is responsive, helpful and kind. She accommodated our large family of 9 at a moment's notice! Nothing to complain about except the town itself shuts down on Monday night and there's no where to find food for hungry kids! Thanks, Jan!!

Incredible lake view and a cottage that has everything we needed     5/ 5

We rented this cottage for two nights (sep 2 - sep 4). Four adults and a dog. The cottage (which actually seemed to be an all season place btw) was very clean, it had everything we could possibly need: pots and pans, spices, utensils, towels, blow dryers, extra blankets and etc. The beach front was amazing, even though the weather during our stay wasn't too warm, we still went in the water. Beach was a little rocky, but as soon as you walk about 10 feet in the water it turns to a very nice sandy bottom. We enjoyed camp fires at night, grilling and cooking. Wonderful place!! We will definitely be back :)

Cute lake spot     5/ 5

Property was exactly as described, clean, and well-tended with every amenity you could need. The owner was very responsive and knowledgeable about the area. The cove was scenic and pleasant for swimming, exploring, and kayaking. The Lake Ontario area had flooded badly this year, but the property was set back from the water and therefore stayed dry and in good condition.

Beautiful property, great views and attentive owner     5/ 5

Had a great time, loved the cottage feel and new updates. Loved exploring the abandoned Girl Scout camp nearby, paddling in Maxwell Bay where we saw swans! The waves were too high for paddling or swimming most days, but falling asleep to the sound of the waves was lovely! Getting to share vacation with our dog was an added bonus.

Perfect for family fun.     5/ 5

We had a great time with both adults and children enjoying themselves. The lake was great and having the kayaks was so much fun for the kids. We brought a boat and found launching in Sodus Point easy and within 5 minutes from camp. Everything was clean, had plenty of towels and washer and dryer come in handy. Jan was very easy to work with. We drove 800 miles to stay here and would do it over again but for longer next time.

Soooo relaxing     5/ 5

We stayed two nights from Friday to Sunday. Weather was gorgeous! We loved having coffee on the back deck in the morning. House was very clean and comfortable. Jan was there to meet us when we arrived and was always available by text or phone if we had any problems - which we didn't Our son and his girlfriend took the paddle boat out and it was beautiful on the lake. Our beagle also had a great time hunting down all the smells! We walked around Beechwood Syate park (an abandoned Girl Scout camp). Spooky and fun! Thank you Jan for a great weekend!!

The vacation I'd hoped for     5/ 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this property and agree with other reviewers' comments. The house was very clean inside, and we had no problems with bugs or anything else. The outside of the place could really use some TLC - gutters almost falling down, large branches over the back deck that should be trimmed back. There are also some steps in strange places in the house as well as the deck that could be a hazard for someone not so sure on their feet. The ceiling tiles in the living room and bedrooms are stained and some look close to falling down. I wasn't a fan of the tap water - it seems to have a water softener system, but still smells questionable and nothing ever felt very clean after washing. That being said, I would stay here again. The views were beautiful, the area was quiet and remote, and Jan really made every effort to make the place welcoming and comfortable for all visitors. We especially enjoyed kayaking every day and were often the only people on the water as far as you could see. The fire pit area was really nice. Jan also provided all sorts of info on things to do and places to go. We went to Burnap's Garden Market and Cafe a couple of times for meals, morning coffee, and ice cream - only a mile away and really great!

Great family getaway. Wonderful lakefront cottage.     5/ 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ferryland cottage. Everyone found something to do from hiking to kayaking and enjoying the beach to just enjoying the shady deck. The cottage is very comfortable and the large open living room/dining room was the perfect place to relax and rest up for the next adventure. Thank you Jan for a great vacation.

a weekend of friendship     5/ 5

I travelled to this wonderful cottage for a weekend with several friends, and cannot express how beautiful it was. The stars over the lake, the sunsets from the back porch, and the orchards were all gorgeous. My friends and I kayaked around the point, taking in the sights and sound of nature and friendship. The indoors were clean and cozy, and we've struck up a friendship with the owners. I recommend exploring the coast of the lake!

Impressed with the location, BUT     5/ 5

We were traveling with our parents who are both 70+ and a pet. We rented this house for 4 nights. The first evening was like a much anticipated relaxing vacation. And then, post dinner, all hell broke lose. There was flooding in the kitchen from the sink and the dishwasher. We called the owner the next morning. Amidst the non-stop apologies from the owner/care takers, it took them 3 days to resolve the issue. We couldn't use the kitchen or the laundry. We had people running in and out of the house all 3 days. We had to use the kitchen next door (also owned by the same owner). We ended up doing a lot of back and forth because the owner couldn't move us due to another booking. There was a very nasty smelling chemical used on one of the days while our pet was still in the house. And we couldn't use the laundry on any of the days. The owner and care takers were apologetic and tried their best to make us feel better. (The owner even refunded us for 2 nights). But, we were the one's who bore the brunt of the inconvenience.Though it was a lovely location, home and the plumbing issues were probably just a one time freak incident, all the problems we faced doesn't make us want to rent this place again.

Perfect weekend     5/ 5

The photos do not do this place justice! The view is incredible. I booked a weekend here with a group of friends for my birthday and it could not have been any more perfect. We had a blast taking the boats out and exploring the lake, relaxing by the water, chilling by the fire. The owners were very friendly and helpful. 10/10 would stay here again, and we plan to!

Million-dollar view     5/ 5

My wife and I stayed in this lovely cottage during the second week of May. We have stayed in many VRBO locations through the years, but the view of Lake Ontario from the deck is as spectacular as any I have seen. We enjoyed exploring the area. We are avid birders and found this cottage to be an excellent base for this interest. On the lake, we watched mergansers and loons, and an endless stream of gulls, terns and kingfishers. We saw a number of warblers in the trees around the cottage. The adjoining Beechwood State Park provided a number of different habitats to explore and was very uncrowded. Two excellent birding hotspots are nearby: Montezuma NWR is 45 minutes southeast of the cottage; and Sterling Nature Center is about 45 minutes northeast. The cottage itself is older. It has obviously been happily used for a number of years. We were comfortable in the cottage. But if you prefer new or pristine furnishings and surroundings, you probably would be better served elsewhere. Our dog loved the area, and we appreciate being able to bring her with us on our vacation. Jan was informative and easy to work with. We will return.

Beautiful & peaceful location     5/ 5

Located right on Lake Ontario, with beautiful views from cottage. Beaver pond just several minutes walk through old apple orchard - and we enjoyed walking down there every day to watch the beavers. When we were there, it was cool most days and rainy a couple days, so not good for swimming or water activities, but the little round table in corner is great for puzzles or games, with a gorgeous view, and the heat was sufficient for cool, wet days. It would have been nice if the porch swing had been set up for the 2 warmish semi-sunny days we were there. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, but I found the oven seemed hotter than the temp at which it was set. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs and an unheated sleeping loft upstairs. The master bedroom with queen bed is quite comfortable, with large window overlooking lake. WiFi reception good. The smaller bedroom has twin beds, and the mattresses seemed a bit old -- fine for kids, but maybe not for a picky adult. We ate most of our meals in, but there are several choices for eating out. Burnaps Apple Orchard has a great lunch, and is just about 5 minutes away (unfortunately not yet open for season during our stay). We went to the BBQ place out on 104 -- food was great, service not. We also went down to Lagoner Farm in Poultney - about 15 minutes drive. We'd been there before, but not for a meal, and they have a little pub and nice breakfast & lunch offerings open year around. Sodus Point is about 10 minutes away - it has beautiful views and a nice playground on the beach. Remember to bring jugs of water with you, as the water there has a bad taste. We forgot, but there is a gas station not far away that has water.

Peaceful. pleasant stay     5/ 5

If Peace and tranquility is what you are looking for, this is your place to go! I came to relax, paint, read, and bond with my dog. We had a very pleasant stay. The owner and property manager are wonderful people and do go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are several places to go shopping in the area - whether for food, specialty shops, antiques, wineries, etc. The huge windows provide awesome views of the lake and let so much light in. I was able to set up and paint on the back deck - it was a very enjoyable vacation indeed.

We chose Ferryland cottage following my husband's surgery for just a few days away from home. Jan and Cindy were wonderfully helpful but not intrusive. The place was beautiful, peaceful, and we would go back and stay forever if we could! Also, we are geocachers and this place had at least 8 caches within walking distance and many more in the area. We also brought our dog who also loved it.

This is a beautiful spacious cottage with comfortable furniture. Both decks provide a delightful view of the lake, comfy lawn chairs and picnic areas. We enjoyed breakfast on the front deck and dinnerware on the back deck, as we watched amazing sunsets. We loved kayaking, swimming, hiking and watching the swans, eagles, herons, chipmunks, and hummingbirds. It was great to have a campfire overlooking the waterfront. Although we didn't use it much, tv is available in the loft as well as the living room, along with a DVD player and wifi. On a cooler evening,we enjoyed dining inside, with a gorgeous view of the Lake . It was fun to walk the shore, wade, and watch the boats/ships. BINOCULARS are a must. We enjoyed a close by farmers market and the beach at Sodus Point. Chimney Bluffs is a favorite of ours and is relatively close by. Mom stayed with us and appreciated a small step up to the deck and into the cottage,as well as grab bars in bathroom. Pots and pans, dishes, silverware,linens,...were all provided. We all loved our stay and plan to return. HATS OFF TO OUR HOSPITABLE,FRIENDLY HOMEOWNER!

A Place of Peace     5/ 5

Upon arriving at Ferryland Cottage we were greeted by two very nice ladies. I can not express how beautiful and relaxing this place is. The breath taking sunrises and sunsets, the endless rock/sand beach and beautiful views of the lake from each room in the house...are just a few of my favorite memories of Ferryland Cottage. Honestly, this vacation rental could not be more perfect. The owner provides detailed maps of the best local places to visit and the surrounding area is stunning. There is even a trail that leads to Beechwood State Park...which is beautiful to walk at any time of the day. This place is perfect for family, a romantic get away, or just a great place to gather with friends. There is not a single complaint about this rental...other than it may be difficult to convince yourself to leave. To this day my husband and I jokingly ask "What do you want to do today" and at the same time we answer "Go back to Ferryland!"

Nice Cottage, Close to Fishing     5/ 5

My Friends and I (8 total) rented this cottage to go fishing. Was Close to Maxwell Creek, and could accommodate all of us. This was our second trip here and won't be the last. The cottage was very clean and the owner was very accomodating/friendly. Great girls weekend rental.

Quaint Cottage on the Lake     5/ 5

I rented this cottage for a weekend reunion of friends and by the end everyone was thanking me for finding such an amazing place and asking if we can do it all again next year at the same cottage. Stunning view of the lake from living room as well as the master bedroom and you will spend hours on the back deck taking it all in from there as well. If you're lucky you'll have gorgeous sunset to stare at during the evening. Walk right down to the lake through the backyard. Make a fire in the fire pit. Grill some dinner on the gas grill out on the front deck. Star gaze while laying in the empty field next door. My friends an I were so busy enjoying the cottage and each others company that we didn't have enough time to do all the activities that Jan, the wonderful owner, had mentioned upon arrival. There are some trails very close by to explore as well a small bay to explore by kayak. Also, a nice beach a few more miles down by the larger Sodus Bay. There is a site manager a few doors down the road in case you have any problems or questions, which we did not. When it's time for bed you'll have plenty of cozy sleeping options. We fit 7 friends comfortably and the cost split between everyone was one of the best deals I've ever come across. It would still be a good deal and perfect place for a couple, or a family. I could go on and on but you just have to experience it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Charming Cottage Getaway     5/ 5

This cottage has everything you could want for a vacation -- a park within walking distance (a trail literally starts across the street), boats to barrow for some paddling on Lake Ontario, campfire spot overlooking the lake, internet that's fast enough for streaming netflix/hulu. Plus there are great places to get food that are only a few miles away, including a farmer's market store and great local Mexican restaurant. The place was clean, well-maintained, and the owner was helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Would strongly recommend to anyone in Rochester looking for a an easy spot to getaway to -- less than an hours drive yet you feel like you're in another world.

nice place with a great view     5/ 5

We had a great week there. The views of Lake Ontario are great from the deck or inside the cottage. The sunsets were very nice. We didn't see the meteor showers though due to the clouds. The cottage beach is stony, but Sodus Point has a nice sandy beach and is only 3 miles away. We found lots to see and do in the area including Chimney Bluff State Park. Burnap's Farm market is a great place and there is a very nice restaurant in Pultneyville. We had a very nice and relaxing stay with all the conveniences of home.

Lovelly place on a grassy hill above beach area. Beautiful view of lake, birds, sunsets, boats. Easily swim able spot. Had a wonderful time despite three days of rain. Apple orchards and nice woods with trails for walking; birding paradise. Quiet, private spot. Roomy and includes front and rear decks with plenty of seating. Appreciate the nice gas grill and the pet friendly attitude. The inside of cottage was cozy and comfortable with ample seating and two tables for playing games. Of note- spotty Internet service and dryer was not working. All in all, three 50 something women had a great time and would highly recommend this spot. Well worth the cost.

Beautiful location     5/ 5

My husband, mother-in-law and I enjoyed this beautiful property for a few nights. While the weather was not ideal, we had a great time playing cards and games overlooking the beautiful Lake Ontario bay. Very private, roomy and comfortable for an older property. Lots of character! Sunsets are stunning. Family was very pleasant and enjoyable to talk with and answered all questions and requests.

Cozy Little Cabin     5/ 5

This is a cozy cabin right on the lake! I was fishing at Maxwell Creek, this is a perfect location for that. A private setting, on the water, with the veiw! Very quiet as is off the main road. The owner was very helpful with local restrants and stores,(a map) Clean and well kept place. A full kitchen, plus the dishwasher! For fishing this location is perfect. Close to the bait shop(Sodus Point) Maxwell is 1/4 mile down the road. Makes for a quick lunch, than back to fishing!

Great vacation property     5/ 5

We stayed at the cottage for two nights a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. The plot of land is HUGE, so there is plenty of room for kids to play games and run around. We stayed in the water for several hours one day enjoying the clear and calm lake. The views are gorgeous, whether you are on the back deck, sitting near the fire pit, or swimming on the lake. The cottage is older, charming and homey. Plenty of room for our family of four with additional room for others if needed. Sodus point is only about 4 miles away for shopping, boating, public beaches and entertainment. I would much rather stay here, than at the point. You can NOT beat the sunset and tranquility. Owners are kind and receptive and right next door to lend a hand if you need anything or have any questions about the area. I agree with other comments that you should bring your own water, but also note that the cottage was very clean and well kept! Great walking paths through apple orchards – spotted an Owl on the hike! I’m giving this rental high ratings – it’s the best family vacation I can remember and look forward to renting again!

Our Slice of Paradise     5/ 5

We recently rented this house for our 7th time and have thoroughly enjoyed this gem each of the six years we have stayed. Each time we return, the property wraps itself around us as we are warmly welcomed by the owner Nancy and her family who offer us whatever hospitality we may need to make our stay pleasurable. We are always treated like family. We always find the house and property to be immaculate and the layout of the house affords spectacular lake views. Our son and daughter-in-law come when they can and we all enjoy the comfort of the house as well as the amenities of the lake and property. There are many gems to find and explore from Oswego (to the east) to Rochester (to the west) and the Finger Lakes (to the south) but the gem we enjoy the best is the house at the lake. We consider it to be one of the most beautiful, most pure locations that nature can offer. We already miss our house and our family at the lake and look forward to returning next year.

We Loved It     5/ 5

We loved this place and would definitely recommend it and rent again. We had originally planned this as our Finger Lakes trip, but we aren't boaters, we love quiet and privacy, and we have an elderly dog who loves to play in the water but isn't the strongest swimmer. We didn't find the perfect rental on any of the Finger Lakes and felt this was the right place for us. While we did see a lot of the Finger Lakes and even Niagara Falls, the cottage was the best part of our vacation. It was attractive, clean and had room to spread out with multiple dining and lounging areas, both inside and out, and plenty of big windows, a very nice layout. Very well equipped kitchen and great grill with all the tools. Very comfortable seating and beds, plenty of pillows, cushions, quilts and blankets, and reading lamps all over. This is a very well furnished place and everything was in good working order. Awesome views of the lake from every room, both decks and the huge yard. The lake was great to watch, ever changing, and the cottage has the best lakefront setting we saw with very easy lake access with a slight slope, great trees and nice lawn. The pictures are very accurate but don't capture a week's worth of views. The lake was crystal clear and a comfortable temperature with a very mild slope, very safe for our dog. The little neighborhood on the bluff was very quiet and private. We only saw a handful of people the whole week. The surrounding area was very pleasant with enough nearby places to eat and shop. We're sorry we missed Steger Haus but really enjoyed the pizza and wings at Truck's Oven, Mexican food at El Rincon, ice cream at Hot's Point and fresh produce and other goodies at Burnap's Market. Both of the closest grocery stores had good selections. Traffic was almost non-existent and everything was within a five to ten minute drive. The town of Sodus Point was pretty as were many of the surrounding towns. There was even a winery on the other side of the bay near Chimney Bluffs. Overall, the area, the property setting and the cottage were just right for our vacation. Jan and Nancy were great to deal with, very informative and responsive to our questions. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the cottage and the Sprongs Bluff area. We were content and well rested after a week, and very sad to leave.

Relaxing & kid friendly     5/ 5

I stayed here for almost a week while visiting family in the area. My kids had a blast swimming and exploring the woods and orchards.. Everyone was hospitable and welcoming but we had privacy. We loved sitting on the porch watching the water as the sun went down. Just an all around wonderful experience.

Gorgeous views, great yard & beach & very fun and relaxing.     5/ 5

The photos are real! We visited this summer, and truly enjoyed our stay. The sunrises & sunsets are amazing, a big yard and it’s surrounded by old flowering fruit orchards for interesting walks & birds. We even saw bald-eagles flying overhead! The cottage was very well equipped with lots of windows, but the tap water was a little ‘hard’ (bring bottled water). Despite it’s age, it was pretty & spacious. Owners live right next door, so can fix any problem if you ask. The private beach very relaxing. The water was crystal clear & refreshing, but there was a strip of ‘round stones’ before the sand that made water-shoes or old sneakers a ‘must’. It’s a very fun & safe private neighborhood. Everyone is very friendly, mostly ‘owners’. However we did meet one exception: an old woman flagged us down on the dirt road, to scold us over ‘driving too fast’ and letting our dogs run loose. Must be the neighborhood Nanny. It was memorable, although we likely deserved it. There are many restaurants, boats to lease & nightlife in nearbye ‘Sodus Point’, plus a wonderful pier for fishing & walking, beach & lighthouse park. We enjoyed the closer 'Steger Haus' restaurant, -great JagerSchnitzel & Prime Rib. Old fashioned but a great deal! Shopping & supplies are in ‘Sodus Town’. (Town & The Point are two different nearbye places). Maxwell creek park is also very closebye with park, beaches & ponds. There’s a nice brick fire-site for campfires & between the quiet starlit nights & peaceful swims, -we really enjoyed our stay. Best, bargain vacation, we’ve enjoyed in years. We hope to return, very soon!
