Peaceful and Serene Lake Cottage     5/ 5

The cottage was a relaxing getaway for our family. It is set far off the main road in a community of older but nicely maintained vacation homes. Jan is extremely responsive and helpful in getting to know the area. We enjoyed the Sodus area and traveling to the Finger Lakes, too. The house itself is a bit dated in furnishings but was very clean and the owner provides a well stocked kitchen and laundry area. (We would have given the property 5 stars if the living room furniture had been more up to date. The couches were not what is pictured in the listing. The flip side to this is that they do allow pets and I can see that newer couches would be an issue if people bring dogs that may ruin them). Now on to more good stuff- the deck has an amazing view of Lake Ontario. We spent most of our time sitting outside soaking up the view, reading books and grilling or having a campfire. Even though we had some rainy days and were unable to use the boats due to the high lake levels it was so beautiful- we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The beach at the cottage was not really accessible but the property next door had a little larger beach access. I am sure later in the summer there is probably more beach area at both properties. There is also a lot of wildlife in the state park area- we saw foxes and deer every day. Overall, it was a great experience and we would recommend the property. Also, the little farm markets (Youngman's and Burnap's) were almost daily stops. The salt bread and cinnamon rolls at Youngman's and pretty much everything at Burnap's are delicious and the workers are so nice. It was a great start to our summer of 2019!

Beautiful location.     5/ 5

Had a fabulous time. Being so close to the lake was perfect - and loved the cooling breezes off the lake at the height of summer. Great space for our two dogs too.

We LOVED it     5/ 5

Not a fancy place but it is extremely relaxing, comfortable and a beautiful setting. It's one of the best vacations our family has taken. We loved the fact the deck was enclosed so we didn't worry about our dog. The sunrises, sunsets, fresh air, and water were absolutely amazing. Jan went out of her way to make sure we knew the property and ensure we had great tips about the area. We did not want to leave. Thank you for sharing your place with us.

Absolutely amazing     5/ 5

This was the perfect vacation spot on so many levels. We'll describe some of them: 1) We were worried about having fun for all of our kids (ages 1.5, 4, 11, 13). They all had a blast. Skipping rocks, finding interesting rocks, kayaking, swimming, hiking....nobody was left out. There were kayaks, a canoe, a row boat, a paddle boat, and life jackets of all sizes on site for us to use. 2) The landscape is truly breathtaking. You're sleeping 32 steps away from the water. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible! 3) Near other great spots to explore. Chimney Bluffs are 20 minutes away, Sodus Point with a lighthouse and beach is 10 minutes away, Niagara Falls is a little over 2 hours away. Those were the places we went and enjoyed a lot. 4) The house is small (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom), but we all fit well. Everyone was comfortable. 5) Jan is really great to work with. She was very responsive to our questions before the trip and during the trip. She gave us a tour of the house when we arrived. To summarize: This was a great vacation spot for my whole family. We can't wait to go back again! Dan and Sara Stiefel

I thought the property was well maintained and very quaint.     5/ 5

The area is so peaceful, a welcome retreat from daily life. Quiet neighbors, great views and it feels like you are in a remote location. Great place to fish, have a fire and perfect setting for late night walks to see an abundance of fireflies. The lake is much higher than it usually is and much of the walk out areas that were accessible are now underwater. It certainly takes nothing away from the house or setting, however does make it a little tricky to maneuver kayaks and small boats in and out. Overall a lovely cottage!!

Nice Get Away     5/ 5

My husband, infant son, and 2 dogs visited Ferryland Cottage mid June 2017. The cottage has an amazing view of the lake. WOW! The high water made it difficult to swim or wade, but I don't think that's typical. The home was cozy. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, this isn't it, but honestly we thought it was great (we do a lot of camping and backpacking so it was surely and upgrade for us!!) Had everything we needed for a week's stay. All essentials were included. The owner is super nice and accessible. We encountered unseasonably HOT weather and black flies which made our stay not a 5 star, but nothing to do with the property, per se, except AC would have been a perk. Such is life! We most appreciated being able to bring our dogs! It can be tough traveling with pets, but this was a pet's dream! We have a lab and he LOVED the water being so close! It is very secluded from the main road, but does have several neighboring homes. We did several excursions to the Finger Lakes for hiking, sightseeing. Close enough for day trips, for sure!

Wonderful cottage with outstanding views of Lake Ontario     5/ 5

This was perfect for a family reunion. The cottages were very homely and the surrounding area had lots to offer. My favourite was kayaking in the lake and exploring the trails leading into the nearby state park.

Relaxing holiday     5/ 5

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for four days. It was easy to find by following Jan's directions that she had emailed to us; a couple of days before our stay. The cabin was very spacious, well-kept and clean. The views over Lake Ontario was spectacular and we were lucky to view the beautiful sunset the first evening we were there. The kitchen was adequately stocked with kitchen utensils. The bathroom had towels and all amenities. Jan had left a lot of flyers/booklets and useful information about various things to do around the area which was a nice touch. We made use of the barbecue and also the fireplace; the latter contributing to cozy evenings indoors while it rained outside. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make use of the fire pit near the lake due to wind and rain. It was nice to getaway from the city. We had a very pleasant and relaxing holiday and would love to come back!

It's not a fancy place and that's what we love best about it. It's so cozy and comfortable.     5/ 5

The view is incredible. The cottage sits up higher than lake level so you feel you can see forever. My family spent 1 1/2 weeks there at summer's end and came back the third weekend in October. We thoroughly enjoyed the huge deck this summer and at all out meals out there, including breakfast! The cottage has a furnace plus a gas fireplace so our cold weekend this fall was so cozy and warm. This summer we hiked in the state park at the end of our road plus took advantage of the kayaks and paddle boat that are at the cottage. We spend lots of time down by the water just looking for beach glass. If you are just looking for a great cottage in a beautiful location this is the place for you!

Relaxing and beautiful     5/ 5

We were very pleased to stay at this lake house for a week for our family vacation. We did use the boat rentals and were able to go out on the water a couple times within the week and enjoyed kyacking and row boating. Other days were quite windy with pretty big waves but we didnt mind relaxing out on the spacious back deck (where we spent most of our time) Being right on the lake was perfect as we could go out swimming or view the lake at anytime. We had 5 adults and 2 children and fit comfortably in the bedrooms as well as the livingroom and dining areas. We brought our meals/food with us for the week and it was exciting to find portable pantry shelving in the front closet that we were able to pull out and use. We used the grill almost everyday and never ran out of gas. The stove seems to take awhile to boil water but as long as you use the lids it didnt seem as bad. There did tend to be a lot of spiders BUT being on the lake that is expected. The mosquitoes are not bad as you have wind almost all the time. We had a fire a couple times and enjoyed watching the lake as the sun set. Absolutly gorgeous scenery. My 7 year old daughter was very sad to leave, as we all were! Overall, we would deffinatly recommend this property to families and/or couples, friends as a week vacation or even a weekend get away. Thank you Jan for providing a wonderful experience for us!

Beautiful Cottage with amazing views of Lake Ontario     5/ 5

My family and I stayed for a week in July and had a wonderful time. The home was set up perfectly for our weeks stay. Had all the extra's we needed to make it comfortable. The deck is absolutely beautiful and perfect to sit on while watching the water hit the shore, sunrise and sunset. Jan was very helpful and met us when we got there to show us around. She had a ton of information on the area and brochures available for us to see what activities were around us. She told us to contact her if we needed anything...however, we did not have any issues. :) The area is beautiful, peaceful and cozy. Short trip (5 minutes) into Sodus Point to the beach and light house. The only thing I would say negative would be the amount of stairs down to the water. (water access) This wouldn't be he cottage to stay at if you have any disabilities and can't navigate stairs well. However, they also own the cottage next door which is equally as beautiful and better access to the water. I would recommend this house to families looking for quiet, relaxing time away with their family. Thanks Jan for your hospitality....we had a great time!

Beautiful Sunsets and lake views     5/ 5

Jan is a very good hostess. She was prompt in communicating with us. The cottage is a bit worn but cozy. This is to be expected when you are permitted to bring doggies. Our dogs had a blast walking in the state park a short walk from the cottage. Very good directions were left for the supermarket (very short drive) and the farmers market and cafe. Jan recommended the market to us and what a great pick. Outstanding pie and lunch! It gets a bit hot in the cottage if the wind does not come off the lake. In a storm or high winds the lake is great to look at. We appreciated being able to take our dogs as they enjoyed the trip. The rental is perfect for relaxation. the listing was truthful and accurate as well. I give 4 stars because of the heat (not owners fault and she supplied plenty of fans).it would be a 5 star in the fall!

don't overlook this GREAT overlook of a Great Lake     5/ 5

It's all about the SUNSETS! Every night a new experience... often changing views from day to day and sometimes minute to minute. Sunrises were almost as good, though they have a nasty habit of showing up soooo early in the morning: whos idea was that?? The deck is magnificent, and the trip down to the water well worthwhile even at cooler times. Lake Ontario is next best thing to ocean views... and better for boating. Plenty of wildlife too! Don't forget the state park on adjoining land, with easy access trails and ponds just 15-20 feet from this property line. There are TWO lighthouses nearby also: the historic (museum) Sodus Point light is impressive high on the bluff, and the newer and active pier light down by an excellent beach. Even more stunning during rough weather in my estimation. Add a very nice farm market/cafe (with Giffords ice cream!) just beyond the access road and you are set for the week. The home itself is a bit worn but clean and comfy... I enjoyed having signs of living around me, though some may not. Jan was kinda frantic (lol) but always ready to help with information or issues that might come up. The kitchen is well stocked (saves a lot of grocery runs for things forgotten) and quite functional. I would have to say the living room furniture is in poor shape, somewhat uncomfortable, and needs replacement. Then again, the deck is well furnished and we certainly spent most of our time there, doing more grilling than we ever get around to at home. And watching the sunsets.... did I mention the sunsets?? Hahaha! We had mixed weather conditions during our stay, but EVERY day was well spent, even when we had to light up the iron stove for heat... and ambience. The most relaxing vacation ever.

Sodus Cottage     5/ 5

The cottage was cozy, the deck was beautiful. There was plenty of linens and towels, comfy beds, and a fully stocked kitchen. The lake is beautiful, but the beach is very rocky. Use much caution when entering the water,if you are swimming. Thank You for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay!

Clean, Homey, Family Oriented Cottage     5/ 5

We were looking for a quiet place to "get away" for a few days. The listing for the cottage was accurate, inviting and peacefully pictured. It was everything that we expected; we felt right at home. It was a vast improvement over the fishing camp we used to rent! It was clean, neat, well maintained with a very helpful contact person a few doors away. She met us and showed us around. We didn't go out except to do a minor bit of shopping, so i can't comment upon the neighboring amenities. We needed a retreat, and this was the perfect spot!

Thanksgiving Holiday     5/ 5

This was a fantastic place for our annual ladies Thanksgiving Weekend away. The cottage was cozy and clean with everything we needed for our stay. Although it was too chilly for water sports, the view of the lake from the back sliding windows is fantastic. We really enjoyed the gas fireplace too. We had a lot of fun exploring the old Girl Scout Camp next door, Sodus Point, Chimney Bluffs, and Thorpe Winery. Made it over to Sodus for excellent Mexican food at El Rincon as well. A delightful, relaxing holiday for us and we appreciated being able to bring the dogs! Highly recommended.

comfortable and perfect for a girls weekend.     5/ 5

5 ladies needed to just get away together for a weekend and we are so glad we found this rental. It was clean and comfy and semi secluded on the water. We really enjoyed the fire circle down by the water (Bring your own wood). The beds were very comfortable and there is a gas wood burning stove to keep warm if it gets chilly. There is plenty of room for everyone to sit in the living room. I highly recommend this rental for the perfect getaway. Thanks Jan!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fiorentino cottage. The place was very spacious and clean with beautiful views of the lake, a large deck and direct access to a stony beach. Great rental     5/ 5

We had a wonderful time at the cottage over labor day weekend. Jan met us upon arrival and explained where to find all lights, outdoor cushions, how to use kayaks where the life jackets were located etc. The deck was amazing. The deck had gates which was great for the 2 kids we had with us and dogs. Cottage was very clean and plenty of room for six adults. Kitchen came with everything (pots, pans, utensils, etc.). The beach area is great. Definitely bring water shoes as it is rocky.

Great location. Very relaxing.     5/ 5

We absolutely loved this place. The view from the deck is amazing, it's nice and quiet, and when you've recharged there are plenty of activities nearby including a strawberry farm (which was great in late June), Chimney Bluff State Park, Sodus bay, Sodus point, and if it rains there is plenty to do in Rochester. The cottage is well stocked but make sure you bring some firewood.

Terrific     5/ 5

Had a wonderful long weekend in mid-June at this house! 6 of us adults had plenty of room, and plenty of boating fun! The beach area is marvelous (bring water shoes for the smooth stone shore), and a campfire there made for marshmellows and smores! Plenty of hiking trails out the door, and parks within a short drive. Don't miss the sand cliffs! Terrific large deck for those BBQ's! Thank you Jan! John

Wonderful getaway     5/ 5

This is a great cottage for a quiet get away. We had such a relaxing time. Everything we needed was there for us. Spacious, private, and quiet, surrounded by trees. Five minutes Sodus Point for days when you want to get out and go somewhere.

awesome lake house     5/ 5

Our stay was excellent. The house was clean and well stocked. The deck is awesome with a great view of the lake and sunset and a nice gas grill. Down by the lake there is a nice fire pit with good seating right near the water. During the weekend we had use of multiple boats (kayaks, canoe, row boat, paddle boat) that were clean and well maintained and we had a great time out on the water. During our stay we had one day with lots of rain, but the house was very comfortable with a nice kitchen, TV with cable, and wifi that worked well so we were very satisfied staying in for the night. Jan was an awesome host and we would definitely stay with her again.

Girl's Getaway     0/ 5

My girlfriends and I rented this cottage out to kick off our summer vacation back from college. We had so much fun kayaking and canoeing in the boats provided; there were even brand new paddles for us to use. The little cove is beautiful and peaceful, great for exploring. The water was too cold for swimming but at night it was incredibly rewarding to sit next to the campfire pit and watch the sunset. There were also cute farms nearby and it was close to Sodus Point so we took a little day trip. The view from this cottage is absolutely breathtaking and there was plenty of sleeping room for my friends and I. We were concerned about the potential pet or musky smell mentioned in the other reviews but all we could smell was the fresh air coming off of the lake. Also, the last review said that there was no railing leading down the to lake but that Jan, the owner, had promised to fix this issue. As promised, when we arrived at the cottage there was a brand new railing along the stairs leading down to the water. The cottage was very clean and provided all of the amenities we needed as well. Overall, we had a wonderful getaway and are definitely planning a repeat next summer!

Very nice lake views, huge yard area and great swimming area for kids. The cottage was comfortable and served all our needs very well. The huge deck is a wonderful outdoor living space that we enjoyed immensely. The pictures and descriptions that are on this site are accurate at the time of our stay and show you exactly what you find here. Absolutely loved this place and we had an excellent vacation stay. We very much look forward to returning to this cottage next season!

Nice little house except:     5/ 5

1: The bedrooms smelled of cat urine. It's not all the time but on a damp or humid day, it clearly smelled. The landlord assured me I was mistaken but I am not. There are many silhouette cutouts of cats decorating the house and they do allow pets. It smells. 2: When we arrived the bathroom was dirty. It was probably cleaned a bit but it was still dirty. For example the person who cleaned it wipe up, but did not move anything. Like the soap dish. I moved it on the counter and there was crud under it. 3: The microwave was dirty. There was actually spilt food inside the microwave when we arrived. 4: Every kitchen cabinet and every draw was filled with stuff, mostly junk. There was even a dog chew toy in one of the kitchen drawers with utensils. Groceries had to be piled on the kitchen table and counters. 5: Just about every closet and dresser drawer in the bedrooms filled with the owners stuff. There was even a draw full of women's underwear. You can not unpack. 6: The sliding screen door for the porch has a tear running halfway down the side. Good luck keeping misquotes out. It also fell off onto my daughter. She wasn't hurt. 7: Towels and linens are supplied. However the lady who cleans them has pets and when she brought over a set of sheets and linens, they smelled of cat urine also. 8: Spiders in the house. You find a few spiders crawling around every day. I even woke up one morning to a egg sack hatching out of the ceiling fan over my bed. 9: The outside is very nice, has a fire pit, nice swimming area. So anyway if all this is acceptable to you rent this place.

Our July 4th weekend     5/ 5

After being cooped up in the city , staying at this cottage was such a treat. The weather was cool and windy this year but the house so snug and comfy. Family came with food for a picnic and we found everything we needed to have a wonderful time. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake just took your breath away. While the water was too cold to take a swim, standing on the beach was rewarding. The cottage was very clean. The only problem was the stone walkway from the car park area which was a problem for getting my wife into the cottage. A handicapped person would need assistance and also may be prevented from going down the hill to the waters edge. But the view on the deck is awesome.

Perfect getaway to reconnect with nature     5/ 5

We stayed at the little brown cabin for our anniversary weekend. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a cool breeze coming off the lake and a friendly neighbor ready to show us around. We went into Sodus Point for dinner the first night and spent the night reading the amazing book collection in this house! The next day we went to the market for supplies before heading to Beechwood for a hike with the dogs. We took our kayak out in the afternoon and at sunset-- what amazing photos! We visited Maxwell's Creek just in time to experience the Salmon spawning! The lake water is crystal clear-- you can see every single fish beneath you and boy were there a lot! The cabin was an excellent homebase-- close to Sodus and Sodus Point, cozy, and clean. We cannot wait to make trips to this lakehouse a family tradition.

Sprongs Bluff Cottage     5/ 5

Our stay, that included our 2 dogs, was flawless. The property was accurately depicted in the photos and we had no complaints whatsoever. Especially appreciated the close proximity to the lake, altho weather was cool and we didn't go boating. View of lake from deck seemed to change every 15 minutes, something new to look at each time. Beautiful birds and the sunsets were spectacular. Jan was very helpful & congenial and we had everything we needed. Also appreciated the very large heritage trees on the property. The area was peaceful, quiet with plenty of space to roam - the dogs really loved it! We and the dogs also liked the large deck altho someone with disabilities might find it difficult to navigate down to the waterfront - just take your time because it's worth the "trip"! All in all, we had a wonderful time and felt completely at home, like staying at a family member's or friend's house. Jan took care of all details and we did try the recommended Mexican restaurant El Rincon and the food was extraordinary. We were so relaxed we didn't even do all the added sightseeing in the area that we'd planned. Got plenty of rest and hated to leave to go back to the crazy real world! Thanks, Jan, for your hospitality. We'll be back!

Tranquility at its best     5/ 5

This is a great property in a great location. Truly peaceful and magical setting directly on Lake Ontario is fantastic for hiking, boating, swimming, or just relaxing by the fire. Hundreds of acres of old growth forest with enormous trees, eagles, and other wildlife are an easy walk into the back. Or slip the canoe or kayak into the water and cruise the shoreline for miles. We've stayed here many times and have enjoyed every visit. Even in peak seasons there is sufficient space to feel secluded and private.

Beautiful, family friendly, everything you need in place     5/ 5

I have been staying at these cottages every summer for the past decade when I come to visit family. Though I haven't stayed as a traditional renter, I have had so many wonderful experiences at the lake. There are countless activities for my kids, (now school aged, but who have been coming since infancy). The cottages are comfy, kid-friendly, well maintained and complete with everything I have ever needed. I have spent endless days in the lake, BBQ-ing, playing lawn games, reading and exploring. If you need a change of pace, Sodus Point, with its shops, restaurants and beach is a short drive or bike ride away. Really, I feel so lucky to have access to have gotten to spend time on beautiful Lake Ontario and can't wait to go back this summer.
